Five-Year Jail Term nor #200,000 fine For Students Caught in malpractice During WAEC Examinations

Recently, there was a meeting about Candidates who cheat during examinations that was conducted by the West African Examinations Council, (WAEC) and it was agreed that anybody who is caught in the act will  risk a five-year jail term under an amendment to the 2004 WAEC Act being proposed by Federal Government.
Under the proposed amendment, anybody found engaging in examination malpractice will serve a five-year jail term or pay a fine of N200,000 or both.

The Minister of Education, Prof Ruqayyat Rufai, announced this in Abuja on Wednesday while briefing State House Correspondents on the outcome of the weekly FEC meeting.
Rufai said the decision of the meeting, which was presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan, was to “give effect to the revised convention of WAEC, 2003 in Nigeria.”

Who thinks this is too harsh?
