Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state Wednesday dissolved his over 70-man expanded executive council.
The dissolution which left most of the officials speechless was announced to the cabinet members during the weekly state executive meeting.
Affected in the dissolution are all Commissioners, Political Advisers, Senior Special Assistants and all Special Assistants.
According to a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Anthony Anwukah all Commissioners have been directed to hand over to their respective Permanent Secretaries, while all the Political Advisers are to hand over to the Secretary to the State Government. Senior Special Assistants and Special Assistants are to hand over to the Chief of Staff.
The statement further directs that all hand over formalities must be completed on or before Friday, the 19th of July, 2013.
Meanwhile the Government House Press Corps who were in the Executive Chambers during the Exco meeting were at a point asked to leave and assured they would be briefed after the meeting.
But to their chagrin, when the meeting ended all the attendees walked straight to their vehicles wearing long faces.
When Mr. Chinedu Offor, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy was contacted, he confirmed the development. Speaking in a rather subdued tone, Offor noted that only the SSG, Chief of Staff and the Principal Secretary to the Governor survived the dissolution.
